This is a tale of two brothers, nurtured in the enchanting surroundings of Sweden’s west coast and the charming, misty forests of the north. Jonas Rathsman and Franz Novotny, offspring of the same bloodline, have formed a brotherly union after achieving success individually. Shrouded in Nordic nuance and heartfelt melancholy, universal themes lie at the heart of their prolific partnership. Their expansive creative energy has produced a beautiful album, and fuels their rousing live performances. Bonded by blood and driven by a desire to touch peoples’ hearts, the Scandinavian siblings co-create Modern Tales. It was perhaps inevitable that the brothers would eventually work together. It was written, like many of the greatest tales, before they even knew it. As a youngster Franz looked up to Jonas, who was established locally, then globally, with his techno productions. Over time, Franz followed in his brother’s footsteps and they both became renowned musicians in their own field. A previous attempt to unite didn’t quite gel, however everything happens when it’s supposed to. In 2020 a dark and miserable cloud was cast over the planet, during which time the Nordic brothers at the centre of our story found hope in a project that occupied a new space. Rather than draw from their respective experiences, the concept was centered around a blank sonic canvas. At the core of this fresh outlet lies a shared vision and feeling - music to move the mind, body and soul. Cinematic, emotive, melancholy, hopeful and heartfelt, the productions flowed out of them effortlessly. With brotherhood as the catalyst, Modern Tales flourished as Jonas and Franz found themselves channelling all of their energy into the new project. Working in the same studio complex presented the perfect opportunity to exchange ideas and create quickly. Their first batch of tracks resonated with Rüfüs Du Sol, who invited the brothers to support them on tour, signing them to an album deal on their label Rose Avenue soon after. Whisked out of their studio and into the realm of live performance, the brothers took a leap of faith to create their own show… and blossomed on stage. And so, it was written, a story of two brothers, finding understanding, fresh inspiration and an unbreakable bond through the ineffable power of music. Shrouded in the mystique of their motherland with a uniquely Nordic atmosphere - subtle yet ever present, their songs reflect the human experience. Together they narrate sonic stories that will inspire goosebump-inducing moments, never to be forgotten. This is music that captures the truest feelings, in the most authentic way.
